At Rook St. Tutors, we see tutoring as a collaboration between tutor and tutee to restore student’s confidence in their own innate abilities. Our design is about finding clear practises that make the work holistic in a noticeable way. These practices are:

1-1 Tutoring

You choose your tutor

Rook St. Tutors believe that students deserve priority throughout our process, and this begins with our initial consultations. Students have the choice to meet with at least one or two members of our team to discuss their initial choice of tutor. We maintain that it should be up to students to decide which tutor leads their tutorials, even after an initial decision has been made.

Tutoring

Our tutoring style engages students through their core learning faculties - memory, attention, and imagination. Rook St. Tutors bring curiosity, interest, and story when it suits tutees personally. At Rook St., each student’s lived experience helps to shape tutorial sessions as much if not more than grades and school curricula. Our model is designed to help students build their agency as learners and individuals.

Mentoring

Each student has goals and objectives that are personal to their education. Our mentoring service is meant to ensure that our teaching meets your needs. In mentoring sessions, students can discuss their wants as learners, wider interests, and post-school plans with their mentor. Our mentors then work together to ensure our tutoring better speaks to who our students are. This service enhances the way we teach and guide students, offering a deeper kind of support beyond the usual academic constraints of tutoring sessions.

Worry box

Our worry box offers an exclusive, confidential, and nonjudgemental space for students to voice their worries or further explore their creative aims and interests. The worry box works over e-mail and the space exists as its own service that tutees can access at any time. If they would like the anonymity, then our worry-box system also functions as a bypass for students to table any possible changes they’d like to make to their tutorial or mentorship arrangements. They will receive a thoughtful response from our worry box steward who aims to respond within 1-2 days.

Study skills and writing clinics

We also offer optional sessions for a crucial skill, both in exam-performance and wider learning facility, communication, and confidence.
